Acronyms That You Should Know As An Internet Marketer

Recently, I was asked the meaning of some acronyms by some participants during a seminar runs by Stuart Tan. I think it is a good idea that I post some acronyms in here for everybody to share. Please leave a comment if my explanation of any acronym below is not accurate. Please do also to share other acronyms that you think I should mention here. And now to the acronyms:

CPA - Cost Per Action

Cost to an advertiser for every completion of an action that leads to a sale, subscription, lead or conversion

CPC - Cost Per Click

Cost to an advertiser whenever a reader/user click on the advertiser’s ads

CPM - Cost Per Thousand Impressions

Cost to an advertiser for every thousand ads impressions were displayed

CSS - Cascading Style Sheet

A style language that defines layout of a HTML documents

CTR - Click Through Rate

A measurement in form of percentage respond to their ads

FTP - File Transfer Protocol

A network protocol used to transfer file/data from one computer to another/server through a network.

HTML - Hyper Text Markup Language

A markup language that defines the page structures, texts and graphics element in web pages

PPA - Pay Per Action

Similar to CPA. Advertiser payment to every action that leads to a sale, subscription, lead or conversion

PPC - Pay Per Click

Similar to CPC. Advertiser’s payment to every click on their ads

RSS - Real Simple Syndication

A format for notifying new content once publish on a website

SE - Sex Education

Ok, I’m kidding. It is Search Engines like Google and Yahoo, a program/tool that search  web pages

SEO - Search Engine Optimization

A process of optimizing a website to obtain a high ranking on search engines

SERP - Search Engine Result Page

A list of web pages returned by a search engine in response to a/or sets of keyword
